Barbara J. West  2016

I am a Western Canadian artist showing in juried exhibitions since 2000. I am published in the United States and Canada and have exhibited in both of these countries, in addition to Japan and Europe. I am a juried member of the Canadian Society of Artists, Prism in Great Britain, and The Alberta Society of Artists.

I have received a Canada Council grant, had a residency at the Banff School of Fine Arts, and been recognized by my hometown of Canmore, Alberta as Artist of the Year.

Throughout the years my contributions to the Art milieu have included President of The Alberta Society of Artists, Western Region Representative of the Society of Canadian Artists, Western Region Representative for the Canadian Quilters Association and founding member and later President of the Mountain Cabin Quilters Guild in Alberta. In addition I have juried art exhibitions at both the National and provincial level.

I strive for aesthetics in my work; however, it has become more engaging to see art as an avenue of discourse about issues that are meant to engage the viewer in dialogue.

The techniques used in the creation of each piece become a part of the story, so my work includes installation, soft sculpture, painting and textiles.
